Food chat, partial

MORE INFORMATION ON THIS TOPIC:
The Full Plate Club
here's where i came in up to where you lost it =)

(From an e-mail, March 4, 2009, saving it here so I can find that chat and make sure I got this part in. If I can't find that chat, here's a snippet.

SandraDodd: I don't want people's kids making a mess or getting coconut into remote controls or
keyboards or whatever and blaming me!

LauraBowman: i got banana on the keyboard this morning

AussieTammy: we grab the dust buster after every meal!

RVB: Yeah, I already blame you for me making a mess with my own monkey platters. That Sandra Dodd -
always getting me into trouble .

SandraDodd: Tmmy, are there concerns or questions you have in mind for this chat?  We can steer it in your
direction as much as you want!

AussieTammy: that's just life with small children I guess

Alan (Guest76): kids never made messes while eating before Sandra suggested monkey platters

SandraDodd: I know, I do get blamed.  I've been blamed for people's marriages not going well because
the wife got all excited about my weird ideas and the husband doesn't want to read my stuff.

LauraBowman: it's all your fault!!!

RVB: Hey,  I just typed that, too!

AussieTammy: My hubby actually likes when I say "I read on Sandra's site..."
we get lots of wisdom from you ..:-)

SandraDodd: I've been blamed for kids talking back.  Huh.  My kids don't (not counting sparring for
practice), but somehow I can cause evil in others at great distances.

LauraBowman: love the "name those background"...kids like hearing "weiner"
oh so powerful
.:-D

SandraDodd: OH yeah.  And carefully pronounced with a perfect American accent.

AussieTammy: I did want to talk about some stuff.  Like encouraging kids to try new foods.

LauraBowman: weenerrr

SandraDodd: What else?  Dump your list/concerns and I'll watch the clock and make sure we get to all of
them.
Anyone else have particulars?

LauraBowman: we were at a friend's house this weekend and sadie had ice cream sandwiches for
breakfast.  she asked for 2 and said she was full after a few bites of the second one.  it makes me happy
to see her know her fullness as opposed to when she needed to gorge.

SandraDodd: My kids have never had ice cream for breakfast, but I'm always amused by the seriousness
with which some people take breakfast-food bans.   They'll be saying "too sweet" or whatever...
Ever had a *cinnamon roll* people!?

AussieTammy: Limiting foods - how to stop doing it!  When the kids want to eat a whole box of ice blocks
(popsicles) in one sitting I have trouble not saying no.  I can't afford to buy a box a day.

SandraDodd: And as to the ingredients of ice cream, I think whipped cream on a waffle and instant hot
chocolate on the side about do that.

LauraBowman: yum!!  i always loved bill cosby's routine about chocolate cake for breakfast...eggs, milk,
flour...breakfast!!!

AussieTammy: I love sweet stuff for breakfast!

Alan (Guest76): my 6 yo loves sprite, 7up etc. The past two days she has asked for a cup, had one sip,
and left the rest. we've had 2 liters here for days. But I have to keep myself from killing off.

RVB: Tammy, can you make homemade popsicles from juice,  so you have them around all the time?

AussieTammy: Right now I'm having vegemite toast and tea for breakfast.

SandraDodd: About ice blocks and that... What about freezing your own juice in ice trays?  Put something
in there for a handle.   We use plastic rings
like...
(looking for a picture, brb)

AussieTammy: Yes.  We have ice block molds.  I have enough to make 12 at a time, and they can still
zoom through them all in one day.

LauraBowman: always buy up the popsicle makers during the summer for $1 each...and have them
around all the time.
they break easy

AussieTammy: between a 3yo and an 18 mo!

SandraDodd: So let them zoom then!  If it's juice/water, let them zoom.

RVB: They must be hot and thirsty!

LauraBowman: if juice is too expensive...it's just as good watered down and frozen

Alan (Guest76): we use an ice tray designed to make ice to fit in a water bottle to freeze lemaide or
banana shakes

SandraDodd: Unless you eventually let them find their fill, they'll never HAVE "a fill."

reneecabatic: we also freezethe juice that comes with canned fruit--mandarin oranges usually

LauraBowman: even water frozen into a popsicle shape is fun and tastes better!!

SandraDodd: They need abundance in order to say no in an honest, natural way

LauraBowman: excellent idea renee

RVB: Yes, let them experiene the abundance of ice blocks!

SandraDodd: Oh, that's a good idea, the juice from peaches would be good (messy, but good)

LauraBowman: i'm so glad i've learned that about abundance.  but it is still quite an internal dance for
me.

Alan (Guest76): if it's home made, it's frozen health food (not that it should matter, but to help yourself feel
better for now)

AussieTammy: maybe I'll buy another set of moulds today
reneecabatic: it was my 7 yr old's Xander---I'll tell him you said so! ..:-)

SandraDodd: I knocked myself out of the chat.  I'm really sorry.
RVB: You can use ice trays, covered with foil to stick popsicle sticks into, too.
reneecabatic: Xander freezes anything in any plastic container and then uses a fork to scrape it out and
eat

AussieTammy: then the other thing I worry about is that "all" they're eating is ice blocks, which is really
just like drinking all day, not really food.  I guess they'll eat what they need though.

SandraDodd: Laura, could you cut and paste what's up above and e-mail it to me please?
